| Guidelines |
A. The student must earn no less than a B for the final grade.
B. The student must be a junior or senior to receive the Advanced Standing Certificate.
C. The student must enroll at the higher education institution within two years of high school graduation.
D. The student must present the certificate at the time of registration to receive credit for the course.

According to industry standards, students must master the following competencies in Basic Electrical to receive credit:
1. Demonstrate professional automotive technician behavior, acceptable attendance
and demonstrate shop safety
2. Explain and demonstrate electrical safety procedures
3. Define electrical terms
4. dentify electrical symbols, components and controls
5. Calculate series, parallel and series-parallel using Ohm’s Law
6. Measure series, parallel and series-parallel using Ohm’s Law
7. Define basic principles of magnetism and principle of generation
8. Demonstrate test light use
9. Demonstrate and interpret readings off Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM)
10. Test vehicle circuits
11. Operate short finder
12. Demonstrate soldering techniques
13. Replace terminals and connectors
14. Construct electrical circuits
15. Measure voltage, amperage and resistance in electrical circuits
16. Identify wiring diagram component locations
17. Identify circuit controls (relays)
18. Explain circuit problems
19. Trace circuits
20. Identify wire gauge size and circuit protection
21. Test diode operation
22. Explain transistor operation
23. Identify Integrated Circuit (IC) protection procedures
24. Perform battery safety, testing, diagnostics and charging
25. Identify and test for parasitic drain
