 THE BIGGEST REDUCER PROJECT

“The Biggest Reducer Project” is a joint venture led by a partnership of private individuals, local media, utility companies and non-profit organizations that serve the Lyon County area.   The purpose of the project is to encourage households to use resources (electricity, water, fuel, etc.) more efficiently, without sacrificing daily comfort.   Families in Lyon County are invited to complete a brief questionnaire in order to apply for participation in the project.  Application forms will be available to complete and submit electronically at: www.lifetimeoflearning.com.

Completed applications should be returned to the SW/WC Service Cooperative's offices by the January 25, 2010 deadline. 

Six households will be selected for “The Biggest Reducer Project” by February 1st and will receive the following services and materials free of charge as a result of their participation: Free Home Energy Audit ($350 value) by Western Community Action with assistance from utility companies; compact fluorescent light bulbs from Lyon-Lincoln Electric and Marshall Municipal Utilities; low flow showerheads from Marshall Municipal Utilities, smart power strips and Kill A Watt energy monitors from the SW/WC Service Cooperative, programmable thermostats from the Great Plains Natural Gas Company, and technical assistance in developing a reduction plan by the Marshall FFA’s Youth Energy Summit (YES!) team and Lyon County Recycling (and other partners).   Once selected, households will agree to: release information about their utility usage, allow technical assistance in their homes, and be featured in articles in the Marshall Independent newspaper and other media outlets during the course of the project.
